The Richmond Comedy Coalition is Richmond, Virginia’s premier source for awesome live comedy shows and improv comedy classes.
Live Comedy. Dead Serious.

THE STAGE
The Richmond Comedy Coalition is RVA’s premier improvisational comedy theater and training center. Founded in 2009, the RCC houses several improv teams that can be seen performing on rotation in their monthly mainstage shows at Gallery5 along with local stand-up comics and sketch groups. The RCC’s second monthly show at Gallery5, Richmond Famous, presents live improv comedy inspired by the true stories of Richmond celebrities.

The RCC combines experience, training, excitement and good-lookingness to bombard their audiences with professional and diverse performances that showcase improvisation in its truest form. Many of the RCC’s core teams can be seen performing in improv festivals along the east coast and internationally. (Canada is another country, right? Yeah.)
THE TRAINING CENTER
In addition to monthly shows, the RCC has developed their training center to offer classes in the art of improv. Their teachers have trained, instructed, and/or performed across the country and in some of the best conservatories for improv out there, including Chicago’s iO and Annoyance Theater, Washington Improv Theater, Improv Nashville, and ComedySportz. Students who go through the training center get the benefit of decades of combined experience and diverse and enriching perspectives.

THE PHILOSOPHY
Richmond Comedy Coalition shows and classes all center around the belief that comedy should come from truth and honesty, performers should strive to constantly grow and surprise themselves, and above all, it should fun. The RCC encourages their performers and students to develop their own personal beliefs on improvisation and play from their own perspective while continuing to stay open to new ones.
Supporting the comedy community in RVA and helping foster its growth is another vital part of the Coalition. They believe it’s important in such a burgeoning community to promote the hell out of, share ideas with, and collaborate on projects alongside other improv, standup, and sketch comedians in the city. Not mimes, though. They draw the line at mimes. Mimes can fend for themselves.
