Live Improv Comedy Inspired by the True Stories of RVA Celebrities

Friday, May 25th, 8:30pm (doors at 8pm)

Guest Starring:
Casey Longyear & Marshe Wyche

Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall St)

$7 ($5 w/ a valid student I.D.)

The Richmond Comedy Coalition’s all-improvised monthly show series, Richmond Famous, features live and totally unscripted comedy, created on the spot, inspired by the true stories of some of RVA’s most interesting people.

The improvisers will be hearing their guests’ stories for the first time onstage. What unfolds afterwards is as much a mystery to them as it is to you, creating a show so funny you’d swear it was scripted (but you know it’s not).

This month, the RCC welcomes Casey Longyear and Marshe Wyche, the owners of Rumors Boutique, to the Gallery5 stage!

Rumors is Richmond’s premiere thrift boutique, providing the south with pre-selected & pre-loved clothing for guys & girls. They buy, sell & trade clothing daily from customers, handpicking each item to ensure they offer a wide & varying selection of high quality clothing at starving artist prices.

The owners, Casey Longyear and Marshe Wyche, met in 2003 and opened Rumors’ doors in 2007 without owing anyone a dime, meaning they slept on the store’s floor and showered at the YMCA. Rumors opened as an independent boutique offering locally designed products, as well as exclusive international indie lines, but has since been revamped into Richmond’s first thrift boutique.

In their first year they had over 400 bands play in the shop, held fundraisers for over 25 nonprofits, and were exhausted, broke and loving their lives.

Today, they are still trading daily with the diversely fashionable community of Richmond, traveling the states in search of lucky finds, spreading as much positive energy as they possibly can and, in mid-June, Rumors will be expanding and moving to a new location at 723 W. Broad Street!

The Show: 9:30pm

Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall St)

On May 16th, Matt Besser, founding member of NYC’s Upright Citizens Brigade and current host of the Improv4Humans podcast, comes to Gallery5 for an unforgettable night of comedy brought to you by the Richmond Comedy Coalition.

At 6pm, join Besser as he leads a master class on long-form improvisation. 9:30, he’ll be taking the stage to perform his one-man show.

THE MASTER CLASS: 6 – 9pm, $15
In this combination lecture/master class, Matt Besser leads improvisers of any experience and skill-range through scenes in order demonstrate misunderstood strategies in performing long-form improv. The class will cover every facet of a successful scene. From openings and initiation to patterns and game, the lecture examines how each of these can work or fail. Not everyone will get on stage, but many audience members will be asked to demonstrate different skills and techniques.

THE SHOW: 9:30pm, $10
In his one-man show, Besser, who has appeared in more TV shows and movies than one can count, and is the writer, producer and star of Freakdance (now in theaters and on-demand), brings his unique brand of sharp, smart, brilliant standup, characters, and monologues to the Gallery5 stage.

Live Improv Comedy

Thursday, May 10th, 8:30pm (doors at 8)

Gallery5 (200 W. Marshall St)

$7 ($5 w/ a valid student I.D.)

In a world where movie spoilers run rampant, in a world where a single trailer can ruin an entire plot, there’s only one solution. Watch a movie that doesn’t exist yet. Impossible? It was. UNTIL NOW.

This spring, the Richmond Comedy Coalition presents THE MADE-UP MOVIE. It’s live improv comedy performed as if it were on the silver screen. Your suggestions will inspire the RCC’s improvisers to create all of the action right before your eyes in a show where every plot twist, every stunt, and every line will be as much of a surprise to the them as it is to YOU.

Be part of the cinematic experience that has critics raving, “You’ve got to see it…to watch it.”

Featuring special guest acts from the DSI Comedy Theater in Carrboro, NC:

PT SCARBOROUGH IS A MOVIE
For the past six years, NC native comedian PT Scarborough has been performing his one man improvised movie show PT Scarborough is a Movie. The audience chooses which movie will be displayed on the screen and PT takes to the stage with the lights out to completely over dub whats on the screen for thirty minuntes. He is the narration, the sound effects, the music, he is the movie. What’s the plot?! It doesn’t matter!

BONE CRACKER
Riot. Wrestle. Crush. Mosh.
Improv comedy performed by four men let off their leashes,
BONE CRACKER is 300cc of adrenaline that we want you to mainline.
Give us a suggestion. Make our day. Good god y’all.
